I wanted to share some lessons I’ve learned.  Before you say what does this have to do with goats read the whole thing and then read the entire chapter of Proverbs 16.  The past 3 Sunday’s our sermons have been about who Satan is and how he attacks us.  Today the scripture reference was Proverbs 16:18. “Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

I started raising goats in 2011 with Kikos, moved to Savannas in 2013.  I subscribed to the goat rancher magazine.  I saw breeders advertising all the breeds and knew I needed to advertise to sell product.  I also found out I didn’t include advertising in my budget plan so I waited.

I found a Facebook site and quickly learned I could do a lot of advertising for free. So with my whopping 10 Savannas I started learning about Savannas and talking to folks there and what I learned I could regurgitate well and quickly.  I was soon a person commenting on almost every post.  People were buying what few Savannas I had to offer and established in my mind that I needed to be and was becoming a leader least in my mind in this industry. Please understand I didn’t have bad intentions, in fact I thought I was doing a good thing.

Come 2015 I was becoming a “big shot” I even scheduled a production sale and was pushing hard to be the leader.  We didn’t have enough goats to sell for the event and what we had were weanlings.  So I had to cancel the sale, that was the beginning of the fall referenced in the scripture above.  Then I met someone and figured out that I had become a leader on Facebook only.  I had around 15 goats.  I had let my pride get in the way of a smart business plan.  I had people calling me wanting goats and was only able to provide a limited amount.

I withdrew significantly and spent a lot of time truly learning about Savannas from many experienced breeders.  I have been trying to build my herd so when I’m ready I can satisfy more of my customer’s needs.  I have learned if I prioritize helping others become successful first the Lord will bless my business.  Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts will be established.

So these are the things I’ve learned.  I learned the Lord wants me to be humble in all aspects of my life, even raising goats.  When I put empowering others in their goat raising endeavors as my number one priority I can truly commit my works unto the Lord.

From verse 19 to the end of the chapter it speaks to humbling myself before him that that is what he will bless.  These are some of the things I’ve had to learn thru this time and I thank the Lord for his truth and promises if we will truly live by his word.

So I am committing my works unto the Lord and He has been faithful to establish my thoughts.  God bless each of you!
